I think most of you know that today is my birthday (shame shame on those of you that don't ;)). However, I think some of you do not know that I was born the day after my mother. I was a sort painful, but I hope pleasant, birthday present.
So, despite my mother being in nyc, I spent yesterday in my mother's hometown of Ploiesti (which is about a 40 minute train ride out of Bucharest) with my uncle. I think I mentioned the fact that I was going in my last post.
It was really a coincidence that we happened to go on my mother's birthday (my uncle had to attend a memorial for a professor and colleague of his from University here in Bucharest today, which is why he was in town), but it was a fitting coincidence.
Yesterday consisted of several interesting Romanian experiences - the first of which was taking the train from Bucharest to Ploiesti. Apparently the train we rode up there on was one of the older models that my uncle remembers from when he was in Romania.
Val on the train.
Running out of time so I'll get straight to the point. :)
We went to Ploiesti, via train, and there we met with Val's best friend's brother Liviu and then went to visit Liviu and Danutz (Val's best friend)'s mother. Afterwards, we met with Mara (my mother's best friend, who I wrote about before because she picked me up from the airport) and her husband, Picu.
The point in this, there I was on the eve of my mother's birthday with her brother and one of her best friends in her home town eating her favorite deserts - with her in mind of course.
Papanasi pentru ziua de nastere a mame! (yes, got a little help with the spelling)
LA MULTI ANI MAMA!
PS interesting story, the restaurant where we ate was a former military building where my uncle had go to register for army service. But that's another story for another time. :)

SO... I lookes up how to say Happy Birthday in Romanain... and then I was going to post it to your MySpace page. Turns out your page is experiencing technical difficulties. So I went to the blog with my witty idea. And it's your freakin' blog title. SO La Multi Ani ANYWAY, even though it's way less cool than the origional idea was. Miss you.
