A little bit of performing arts

OK, well I guess this happens...

I should really learn my lesson and write everything by hand first. Unfortunately you will not be privy to the literary genius that was the post I had before internet explorer at the cafe here crashed. An hour's worth of it too!
After staying indoors all day on Friday at Marica's house, Monica and Andrei took me out to the Institute Francais to see the movie
Paris Je T'aime. The description is in the link, but quickly, it's a compilation of sixteen vignettes (one for each arondissement, section, of Paris) done by sixteen different directories. I'm positive that it was in the US at one point, although probably at more arty-type cinemas rather than the big Sonys or Mall Multiplexes. It did have some big names, though, so I maybe it did make it to the bigger theaters. One of the great things about it, in fact, was the mixture of known and unknown names involved.
Anyway, I highly recommend it.
Seeing a movie that was mostly in French, subtitled in Romanian, was a bit intense for the linguistic part of my brain, but I actually did pretty well with it. In fact, better than I thought I was going to do.

Afterwards, the three of us met with their son, Mihnea, at a restaurant well-known throughout the Romanian community at home for its advertisements in the Romanian language newspapers in NYC, La Mama. Overall, it was a really enjoyable night (although Marica has since given me her reasons for why that place is totally unacceptable, any they make quite a bit of sense).

In addition to the good time, something else exciting came out of Friday night. While at the theater, I picked up a Time Out Bucuresti, and found an advertisement...I was going to post a picture of it but unfortunately cannot put pictures on this computer...I will do
this instead.

ooooh yes. heh heh.
It was certainly interesting explaining the nature of the band, which I had to do as a result of the fact that I couldn't quite contain my excitement.
This will make country #3 in which I've seen them perform. Well, assuming all goes to plan.

Saturday
On Saturday the weather, although still grey, was good enough that I could at least go outside for a bit. I still have not found any place here that I can go running, nor do I think that I will be able to. At least not in the city. Between the fact that I'm not really near any big enough parks, it's not something that's really done, and the dogs (one of the women at the office joked that if I do decide to run, it will be very fast, since I'll have all the stay dogs after me!). So, I'm trying to take walks. After one-such big walk, I met with Mihnea and he helped me figure out how to buy tickets for the concert. Shortly after, I met with Marica because we had plans to go to the theater and Mihnea had plans to go with some of his friends to the Opera.

Marica and I saw the play
Sase Personage in Cautarea Unui Autor by Pirandello (Six Actors in search of an author). This is where my last attempt at posting is sadly missed, because I wrote a whole long bit about my impressions - but I can say this - it was interesting on many levels. First of all, it's always interesting to see the way theater is done elsewhere (especially when you have a more intimate knowledge of how it's done at home - like my ex-stage manager self does), second of all the play itself was done really well and I had the opportunity to see some of Romania's best actors (Maia Morgenstern was the principal actress!), and also seeing theater with Marica is particularly interesting since she herself is an actress, who has done both film and theater. So, she was able to give me her impressions, as well as a little more background on the actors in the play. She's promised to take me to more theater during my time here, as well as recommend pieces to take Julia and Kristy when the come.

Also itneresting: learning theater terminology in Romanian!
Today
I bought my tickets (three in the hopes that I find people to go with) and some books. Walked a bit. And have spent WAY to much time in this dingy internet cafe (at least it's better than the old one!). So, it's about that time.
best to all! (probably lots of typos - but im out of time!)
