However, the nature of these kind of trips does not lend itself to that. Plus, then I would be going into too much detail and no one would read any of it.
FRIDAY: curry and theater
On friday, during the day, I went and met with a friend from Oberlin, Maria, and we went over to Brick Lane. Brick Lane is partially known for it's strip of south asian, I believe mostly Bangladeshi, shops and restaurants. Maria and I had Indian food - I think I ate the best samoosa that I've had since I was in Cape Town.
Then afterwards I met up with Meg and we walked around the city for several hours, ending up along the Thames, killing time until we were supposed to be at a show we'd bough tickets for. Going to see theater in London was something I had not done yet. Ironically, the show we picked was Avenue Q...a comedy/musical about a guy who moves to Brooklyn just after college and how rough that first year out is for him...for those of you that don't know it. Very funny, graphic puppets and all, but a bizarre subject to be seeing in a London theater, given how "close to home" it was. We had the high-up seats as well - which was funny with Meg, in particular because we can be former tech dorks and talk about the lighting instruments and the differences between the old London theaters and the more modern theaters in the States (and giggle when we noticed one of the spot ops leaving his place in the middle of the show to go backstage and presumably use the bathroom).
SATURDAY: "I wouldn't trust you as near it as Eastbourne!"
Well, as I'm sure you can imagine, I did not run off with any ill-intentioned officers, but yesterday Meg and I did go all the way out to Brighton (and yes, when we were deciding where to go on our day trip I did yell out "oooh! I want to go to Brighton!"). Brighton is only an hour by thameslink (train) from London. We got a bit of a late start though, so we didn't do much sight seeing, but we did spend a lot of time sitting on the rocky beach and generally enjoying the sun, despite the fact that it was colder out there than in London.
I will eventually put more Brighton pictures on my pictures website, including the silhouette of the royal palace (as it was dark when I took the picture), but don't have the time to do so at the moment.
When we arrived home that night, we began to get ready to go out and celebrate St. Patrick's day. We both tried to throw on a little green. Unfortunately the Irish pub we had intended on going to was far too crowded, but we had a good time anyway.
(the earrings and the eye shadow are green...in case you can't tell)
Finally, this afternoon (spent the morning helping Meg clean and doing a bit of last minute things for tomorrow), I went and met Daniele near Spittlefields Market. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera, so I don't have any pictures. Daniele was feeling a bit under the weather, but we had a good time talking. He is coming to NYC in a few weeks and will be staying with Kate. I told him that I will give him a few numbers and people to call if he's at loss for things to do, although somehow I doubt he will be. I will email those of you I was thinking of telling him to contact when I have another moment to really sit at the computer and think.
I leave Meg's house in an hour to take the night bus to Heathrow and tomrrow I arrive in Romania!
